Ed Day is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Birmingham and the lead clinician for the Slade Road Community Drug Team in north Birmingham. His research interests include psychological therapies for addiction, the role of inpatient services, and addiction careers. He is also involved in teaching a range of undergraduate and postgraduate students in addiction-related topics, and is Programme Lead for the MSc course in the treatment of substance misuse. He was a member of the Faculty of Addiction Executive Committee at the College of Psychiatrists for 8 years, serving as academic secretary for 3 of these. He chaired the Specialist Clinical Addiction Network (SCAN) working group on the model inpatient service, served on the expert group responsible for updating the UK Guidelines on the Management of Drug Misuse and Dependence, and is currently a member of the NICE Clinical Guidelines Development Group for the management of alcohol dependence.
