| David Best is a university academic based at the University of the West of Scotland whose research work focuses primarily on recovery from addiction problems. He is chair of the UK Recovery Academy who are attempting to develop a UK evidence base and research network to study the dynamics of recovery, and is also chair of the Scottish Drugs Recovery Consortium (SDRC), who have been set up and funded by the Scottish Government to promote recovery activity across Scotland. At present David is involved in conducting research for the Scottish Government, Welsh Assembly Government, the European Monitoring Centre and in Glasgow and Lanarkshire. He has recently completed a review of the recovery evidence base and has developed a recovery training manual for drug workers. By background, David Best is qualified as a chartered psychologist and as a criminologist and has worked or studied at Strathclyde University, London School of Economics, the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, Birmingham University and now the University of the West of Scotland. He has also worked for the National Treatment Agency in London and conducted a priority review of drug treatment for the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit. He is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed research papers in a range of topics on drugs and crime. |
