Conference theme

Leaders in the field will discuss the evidence base for drug and alcohol recovery models and what the implications are for therapeutic interventions. Using examples of best practice we will explore how drug treatment systems can gear up for the increased demand for recovery options from the public; the political support for recovery options and how to make this possible within the economic climate.

Noreen Oliver will describe the key features of the highly successful third sector model of drug and alcohol rehabilitation in Staffordshire that she has built over the last 12 years. This service is integrated across the whole spectrum of care and beyond in partnerships with agencies who historically sit outside the treatment field, ie housing, employment and education. The BAC O‘Connor recovery model demonstrates the importance of ownership of the Recovery agenda by all partners and the Community.

LEAP evaluating outcomes – recovery communities
Dr David McCartney will discuss LEAP - an NHS led model which has successfully integrated treatment and recovery in Edinburgh. David will outline the findings from their recent outcome study. He will discuss the growth of recovery communities in Edinburgh, the role of peer support and recovery coaching and the evidence base for mutual aid groups.
